Psy, Ross, Lovato to Sing Carols for Christmas in DC

Psy greets a throng of fans outside a mall in Bangkok during a visit on Wednesday, November 28, 2012.
All-time YouTube champ Psy will be joining Diana Ross, Demi Lovato, Megan Hilty and others in Washington DC for TNT’s annual Christmas in Washington special to be hosted by Conan O’Brien.
President Barack Obama — who has said he knows the horse-riding dance — and First Lady Michelle Obama will be in attendance at the 31st edition of what has become a tradition in the nation’s capital. The concert, scheduled for 8 p.m. ET/PT on Dec. 21, will benefit Children’s National Medical Center. Last year it featured Justin Bieber with whom Sasha and Malia sang on stage.
Meanwhile Psy is currently inspiring Gangnam mania in Bangkok where he gave a free concert Wednesday night as a tribute to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who turns 85 next month.
Psy aka Park Jae-sang, paid respects to the king at a Bangkok shopping mall by signing his name in an autograph book beside a giant poster of the king. The outdoor press conference that followed prompted nearby screaming fans to break into the horse-riding dance made famous by the “Gangnam Style” music video that has become the most viewed YouTube video of all time as of early Saturday morning, topping Justin Bieber’s “Baby”. As of Thursday Psy’s viral sensation had logged over 850 million views and appears to have the momentum to pass the 1 billion mark by New Year’s Day.
Psy said he plans to release a worldwide album in March with some new dance moves.
“I think I have plenty of dance moves left,” he said. “But I’m really concerned about the (next) music video. How can I beat ‘Gangnam Style’? How can I beat 850 million views?”
In response to a question from an AP reporter, Psy said more than any celebrity he would like to see Tom Cruise go “Gangnam Style”, then chuckled at what he apparently thought was an incongruous image of the action star doing the droll move.
But Psy may have the opportunity to see an even more incongruous sight if he can persuade President Obama to join him on stage for the finale of the Christmas in Washington show. On Election Day when asked if he could do the dance, Obama replied, “I think I can do that move.” He then said he would “do it privately for Michelle.”
